The Unwelcomed Adventures of a Handy-woman

Ever since I moved back home, household projects are constantly presenting themselves. In August all was well with our little abode; my sister, Alli, and I compiled a list of little things that would help spruce the house up. Install roll-out organizers in the cabinets, replace the downstairs toilet, tile the upstairs bathrooms, repaint trim...as I said, the list wasn't so long.

Not long into September catastrophe struck the Morris house. It appeared as though we had a plumbing issue. As I stepped out of the shower one evening, I heard a strange noise coming from downstairs--Overflowing water. After utilizing every towel in the house to mop up the 2 inches of water spewing from the angry toilet, we figured it was a fluke. Perhaps someone was not owning up to their last visit to the downstairs bathroom, after all, the toilet was brand-new. If only it had been a fluke; during the first week of October, the toilet decided to sporadically overflow all of the water it could find within our house. We quickly turned the water intake off and gathered all of the towels for mopping once again, and yet, the water just kept flowing. After much urging, we convinced mom to call disaster restoration specialist and a plumber. As the disaster restoration specialists came and ripped out our beautiful, one year old, hardwood floors and situated dehumidifiers to pull moisture out of the sub floors, we resigned ourselves to the long road ahead.

Now, we sit waiting for quotes from contractors and imagining the Homeowners Insurance canceling our policy.  Perhaps when all is said and done we will have all of the experience we need in renovations to start our own business, for women, by women.
